Maude, Abigail, and a Tale of Two Charlies

What are the odds??? You’re not going to believe this.  Monday morning two puppies, Maude and Abigail, that went home last weekend to different families were coincidentally reunited…in the waiting room at their new vet in Marin County!!  They were waiting for their “new puppy exams” to confirm good health and to get established with their vet. They also discovered that they are both signed up for the same puppy class with the Humane Society, so they will be seeing more of each other! The sisters and their new mommies posed for a family picture!:)

Another fun California Bichon coincidence occurred this summer in Carmel.  I received this email:

Dear Adrienne,

I had to drop you a quick note to share an awesome chance meeting Charlie and I had this week! Charlie and I (along with my family) spent a day in Carmel, CA. We walked all around town going in and out of the shops and meeting lots of friendly dogs in this very dog-friendly town. As we walked into the very cute Diggidy Dog shop we met what looked to be Charlie’s twin sister. After talking with the ladies with the “other” Charley, we discovered that the pups were half siblings. What a great chance meeting! I will definitely get together again with Diane and her sweet Charley soon, as we exchanged email addresses. I was so excited that I had to share with you!

Regards,

Jane

Last week I received a darling Christmas card from Diane and Charley which mentioned that the two “Charlies” do have regular play dates!  Super fun!!!

Saying “Good Bye”

“How can you bear to part with them?”  This is a question I am asked often.  The sweetness of an innocent puppy gently cuddled in the loving, protective arms of its new family makes parting bearable.  The puppy looks trustingly into the face of one who becomes their best friend.  It is a special experience to witness this initial bonding.  These puppies are eagerly anticipated and careful preparations have been made by their conscientious families.  In exchange for this love and care the puppy promises affection and companionship. I am so glad to be a part of this.

These puppies will be living in Livermore, San Jose, Marin County (2 pups), Fresno, Benicia, Auburn, and Idaho.  Here are their fabulous, new families!

Getting Ready to Go Home!!

Getting ready to go home!  The puppies have had a busy week with vaccinations, dewormings, microchips, and now grooming!  Here is one of my assistant “Puppy Bathers”, Tyler.  A day in our Bichon puppy salon includes a bath and blow-dry, nails clipped, and a spritz of leave-in conditioner- simple and sweet!

Did I mention “sweet?” 🙂  Happy 8 week birthday, Little Sweethearts!!!

The 8 Week Well-Puppy Vet Visit!!!

It’s that time!! Almost 8 weeks old and getting ready to go to their new families soon! An important step is a well-puppy health exam by Dr. Rice.  We want to make sure each puppy is healthy.  This is a long visit as he weighs and carefully examines each pup.  In these photos you will see Dr. Rice checking out the puppies with help from his lovely assistant, Shannon.  See if you can find Dr. Rice examining eyes, ears, heart,  lungs, and bite.  Find pictures where he is checking for hernias and luxating patellas.  In one picture he is taking a puppy’s temperature.  Shannon found it quite a task to hold the puppies still when they wanted to lick her!

When the puppies passed their health examinations with flying colors it was time for a group picture!!  A big “THANK YOU” to Dr. Rice, Shannon, and Mike!!!

Six Weeks and a Winter Storm!!

Mama and her pups had an exciting adventure playing on the grass this morning!  The sky was darkly ominous, and gusty winds warned that a winter storm was imminent.  When large raindrops began falling the puppies only became more frisky.  We scooped them up and brought them in before they became drenched!!

5 Weeks Old and So Dang Cute!!!

DSC_0160If a picture is worth a thousand words, then how  many words is 20 pictures worth??  Alright, I’m not going to post that many photos, but close.♥  Please sympathize with how hard it is to stop photographing when everything they do is so dang cute!!! DSC_0186

Nursing is still a popular pastime!  The puppies are also eating a mixture of Nature’s Domain canned food with soaked kibble and drinking water.

The puppies are sweet and gentle- so fun to cuddle and hold!!

Three Weeks and Happy Halloween!!!

Mama Hippo and her assortment of “costumed” babies.  As fast as they were dressed in costume, they wriggled out!!  Her babies were dressed up as a frog, monkey, whale, rooster, camel, pig, koala, and lamb. It didn’t take long for them to figure out how to nurse around the velcro closure on Mama’s costume!  Happy Halloween!!!

Two Weeks and Growing!

DSC_0006Checking in with an update at 2 weeks old.  The puppies’ eyes are starting to open and their pigmentation continues to fill in.  Nursing and sleeping are still the top priorities.  We hear an occasional growl, but it is far from menacing yet!  They are getting up on their legs and doing some walking.  Mama keeps them nice and clean.  She is producing a lot of milk- her appetite has almost doubled from last week!
